In order to improve safety standards and attest to the quality in the construction of watercrafts, the Brazilian Association of Boat Builders and their Implements (ACOBAR) and the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), developed a Watercrafts Certification Program. The program aims to highlight the criteria for the construction of watercrafts produced in Brazil and lay down important requirements, which were perfected following international construction standards, giving credibility to the Brazilian boat anywhere in the world.
The seal is directly related to the care taken during the construction of a watercraft, as well as to the safety of the people involved in the production and also those who use watercraft and care for the environment.
To make up all the Certification criteria, it took four years of technical work, study and implementation, involving Acobar and ABNT. The process includes a full checklist that must be complied with by the requesting shipyards and, once approved by the ABNT inspector and auditors, watercraft will present an official seal indicating that it is certified.
ABNT Certification is delivered for a given watercraft model and the Seals are unitary, specific to each watercraft, for the purpose of total traceability.
Acobar's future goal is to develop a process with the Port Authority, so that only boats and watercrafts that have the ABNT Certification Seal are registered with the Authority. Acobar also already works in partnership with ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council), with the intention of standardizing and making the Brazilian features of navigation and construction of boats for the international market.
ABNT is the only National Forum for Standardization, acknowledged by Brazilian society since its founding on September 28, 1940, and confirmed by the Federal Government through many legal instruments. It is responsible for the elaboration of the Brazilian Standards (NBR), destined to the most diverse industries. ABNT takes part in regional standardization at the Mercosur Standardization Association (AMN) and the Pan American Technical Standards Commission (Copant) and in international standardization at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Since 1950, ABNT has also been active in the certification area, serving large and small, domestic and foreign companies, currently applying more than 400 certification programs. The company finds in the ABNT Conformity Mark the guarantee that it is acquiring products and services accordingly, meeting the strictest quality criteria.
Intech Boating officially received the ABNT Certificate of Conformity during the Rio Boat Show 2019. Intech Boating is the first shipyard to have its entire line certified with the Acobar Seal - ABNT.
